Urban Frame is a knowledge-based Design Firm.

We author narratives through design and Creating Spaces That INSPIRE and intrigue human experiences with dynamic design solutions for the benefit of People, Projects, and the Planet.

Urban Frame has achieved global recognition for its diverse work encompassing a range of specialized practice areas — Residential, Commercial, Urban Design, Institutional, Hospitality, Cultural and Mixed-Use Developments. Over the years, the firm has gained a reputation for designing and delivering forward-looking, sustainable, and high-performing projects. The practice operates in Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Singapore.

History

A quiet evolution.

The practice has grown deliberately and slowly — by reputation, by referral, and by a refusal to take on more work than we can do attentively. Below is a partial chronology.

2007

Founded in Bengaluru

Established as a small practice in Indiranagar, focused on residential and small commercial commissions across South India. Two founding architects, three drafting tables, one shared brief.

2011

First institutional commission

A regional library and arts centre in Mysuru — the firm’s first public-sector project and the beginning of an ongoing engagement with civic and cultural typologies.

2015

Hospitality & mixed-use practice

Practice expands into hospitality and mixed-use developments with the Verde Residences (Bengaluru) and the Coorg Hill Retreat — the first of many resort commissions.

2018

Hyderabad studio opens

A second Indian studio is opened to support the firm’s growing portfolio of work in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and across the Deccan. The masterplanning practice is formalised.

2021

Urban design practice formed

Urban design and master-planning becomes a distinct discipline within the firm, leading several large-scale township and TOD framework commissions across Karnataka and Telangana.

2024

Singapore studio opens

A third studio is opened in Singapore to support the firm’s expansion into Southeast Asia. The first commissions across Vietnam, Indonesia and Sri Lanka are signed in the same year.

2027

Twenty years of Urban Frame

The practice marks its twentieth year with 180 completed projects, three studios and a portfolio that spans residential, commercial, urban design, institutional, hospitality, cultural and mixed-use developments.

Mission

Six principles guide everything we make.

They are not a manifesto. They are a working set of obligations the partners hold each commission to.

Place before form

Every project begins with a long, slow reading of its site — geology, climate, history, community. Form is what remains after that reading is honoured.

Material honesty

Structure is celebrated, not concealed. Materials are chosen for how they will weather, age and tell their own truth fifty years from now.

Public generosity

A building owes something to those who will only ever encounter it from the street. Façades, thresholds and adjacencies are designed for the city.

iv.

Light as architecture

Natural light is treated as a primary structural material — calibrated by orientation, geometry, and the quiet rhythm of the day.

The long horizon

We design for a hundred-year service life. Buildings that can be repaired, adapted and re-tenanted are buildings worth building.

vi.

Ecological repair

Architecture is a net contract with the land. Every commission must leave its site more biodiverse, more pervious, and more habitable than it found it.
